The Labour Party has hired Matthew Laza, a former BBC producer, into a new role handling broadcast appearances for Ed Miliband.
Laza’s appointment follows the arrival of Barack Obama strategist David Axelrod ahead of the general election next year.
A Labour spokesperson said: “Matthew brings a wealth of broadcast knowledge to the Labour leader’s operation as well as a first class political brain.”
“We’ve taken a lot of care with getting the right person and he’s the right man for the job in terms of having all the qualities we’re looking for.
“He has excellent experience in broadcasting and an eye for broadcasters’ needs, and we think he’ll make a big difference.”
Laza’s professional experience for the BBC includes spells on The Politics Show and The One Show.
